Dads Together: The First Step
Becoming a dad is an incredibly rewarding yet challenging role change that many face without the support they truly need. Many fathers have concerns or challenges with the transition to fatherhood, experiencing a change in partner relationships, confusion over their role as a father and partner and simpmy feeling forgotten about.

A recent study by Swansea University found that 8-13% of fathers experience depression during pregnancy and early parenthood. The study also shows that, in Wales, 7 times as many dads have died by suicide as mums during the 1001 critical days, with 2 to 3 babies using their fathers to suicide every week across the UK.

Currently, dads simply aren't supported. They are excluded from specialist perinatal mental health services (only available to mums), and they are not prioritised or seen as equal to their counterparts.

We want to give dads the best possible start to fatherhood, supporting and empowering them in those critical first 1001 days.

We’ve developed a support programme designed by dads, for dads to help new and expectant fathers (with children up to 18 months old) make a smoother, more confident transition into fatherhood.
